         tee on Education

       AN  ACT  to  amend  the  education  law, in relation to requiring school
         districts to report on each student that enters  sixth  grade  through
         completion of the ninth grade

         THE  PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM-
       BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

    1    Section 1. Section 305 of the education law is amended by adding a new
    2  subdivision 42 to read as follows:
    3    42. THE COMMISSIONER SHALL ESTABLISH RULES AND REGULATIONS,  AND  FROM
    4  TIME  TO  TIME  AMEND  GUIDELINES  AND  SPECIFICATIONS, REQUIRING SCHOOL
    5  DISTRICTS TO COLLECT DATA AND REPORT ON EACH STUDENT ENTERING THE  SIXTH
    6  GRADE  THROUGH  THE  COMPLETION  OF  NINTH GRADE. THE COMMISSIONER SHALL
    7  DETERMINE THE DATA TO BE COLLECTED AND THE MANNER IN WHICH IT  SHALL  BE
    8  COLLECTED.
    9    S  2.  This act shall take effect on the first of July next succeeding
   10  the date on which it shall have become a law.
