        AN ACT to amend the penal law, in relation to prohibited use of weapons
 
          The  People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:
 
     1    Section 1. Section 265.35 of the penal law is amended by adding a  new
     2  subdivision 4 to read as follows:
     3    4.  Any person who possesses a firearm, any other gun or a non-folding
     4  knife while upon the premises of  any  governmental  chamber  or  public
     5  hearing  room of the state or any political subdivision thereof shall be
     6  guilty of a class E felony. The provisions of this subdivision shall not
     7  apply to police officers or persons providing security at the  direction
     8  of the governmental entity having jurisdiction over the premises.
     9    § 2. This act shall take effect on the first of November next succeed-
    10  ing the date on which it shall have become a law.
