        AN ACT to amend the public health law, in  relation  to  requiring  that
          genetically  modified  salmon  that  is  sold  or  offered for sale be
          labeled
 
          The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and  Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:
 
     1    Section  1.  The  public health law is amended by adding a new section
     2  1357 to read as follows:
     3    § 1357. Labeling genetically  modified  salmon.  Genetically  modified
     4  salmon  that  is sold, offered or exposed for sale in packaging shall be
     5  plainly and conspicuously labeled  or  marked  as  genetically  modified
     6  salmon. Genetically modified salmon that is sold at a market or deli and
     7  is  not  packaged,  shall  be  marked or labeled as genetically modified
     8  salmon with a plainly and conspicuously labeled sign located  near  such
     9  salmon.  Under  this section, genetically modified salmon means a salmon
    10  that has been altered using genetic engineering techniques.
    11    § 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
