AN ACT to amend the environmental conservation law, in relation to the
taking of sharks; and providing for the repeal of such provisions upon
expiration thereof
The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-bly, do enact as follows:
1 Section 1. Section 13-0338 of the environmental conservation law is
2 amended by adding a new subdivision 5 to read as follows:
3 5. Sharks, excluding spiny dogfish, shall not be taken for commercial
4 or recreational purposes by baited hooking except with the use of non-
5 stainless steel non-offset circle hooks. In addition, no person shall
6 conduct, sponsor or participate in any shark tournament unless said
7 tournament's rules and regulations require the exclusive use of non-
8 stainless steel non-offset circle hooks.
9 § 2. This act shall take effect immediately and shall expire and be
10 deemed repealed December 31, 2016.
