TITLE OF BILL:
 
An act to amend the highway law, in relation to establishing the New
York State Trooper Timothy Pratt Memorial Bridge
 
 
PURPOSE:
 
Relates to designating the bridge on county route 33 (Ballard Road)
which crosses interstate 87, exit 16, town of Wilton, in Saratoga Coun-
ty.
 
 
SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS:
 
Section 1: amends the highway law to add section 344-f.
 
Section 2: Provides that the commissioner of transportation shall
install and maintain the ceremonial signage.
 
Section 3: Establishes the effective date.

 
JUSTIFICATION:
 
This bill is being introduced at the request of Trooper Pratt's
colleagues in the New York State Police. Trooper Pratt made the ultimate
sacrifice for our state while on duty as he was assisting a lost driver.
Trooper Pratt was a 30-year veteran of the State Police and spent his
entire career in Troop G, which includes the Capital Region. He had
worked on the Traffic Incident Management Unit at the State Police
station in Wilton since 2008. Prior to joining the State Police, Trooper
Pratt was honorably discharged from the U.S. Air Force after eight years
of service. Dedicating this area of the Northway where Trooper Pratt
patrolled for many years to keep the public safe, is a fitting tribute
to his dedication.
 
 
FISCAL IMPLICATIONS:
 
Minimal to the state.

        Introduced  by  M.  of A. WOERNER, STEC -- read once and referred to the
          Committee on Transportation --  committee  discharged,  bill  amended,
          ordered reprinted as amended and recommitted to said committee
 
        AN  ACT  to  amend  the highway law, in relation to establishing the New
          York State Trooper Timothy Pratt Memorial Bridge

          The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and  Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:
 
     1    Section 1. The highway law is amended by adding a new section 344-f to
     2  read as follows:
     3    §  344-f. Portion of state highway system to be designated as the "New
     4  York State Trooper Timothy Pratt Memorial Bridge".  The bridge on county
     5  route 33 (Ballard Road) which crosses interstate 87,  exit  16,  in  the
     6  town of Wilton, county of Saratoga, shall be designated and known as the
     7  "New York State Trooper Timothy Pratt Memorial Bridge".
     8    §  2. The commissioner of transportation shall provide for the instal-
     9  lation and maintenance of adequate signing of the state  highway  system
    10  as  designated  pursuant  to  section one of this act. However, to avoid
    11  confusion and to limit any possible disruption of commerce,  the  desig-
    12  nation  called  for  pursuant to section one of this act shall be one of
    13  ceremonial nature and the official name of  such  bridge  shall  not  be
    14  changed as a result of this act.
    15    § 3. This act shall take effect immediately.
