Senate Resolution No. 2748

        COMMEMORATING    the    125th    Anniversary    of
        Congregation  Tifereth  Israel  and  paying  special
        tribute to the Shapiro Family on June 12, 2022
 
  WHEREAS,  The  quality  and  character  of life in New York State is
greatly enriched by its religious  institutions  and  the  faithful  and
generous  service of those who devote themselves to endeavors of family,
faith, and community; and
 
  WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to  recognize  and
commend  individuals  and  institutions  of such magnanimous conduct and
bearing which demonstrate a deep and continuing concern for others,  and
in so doing, inspire others to do the same; and
 
  WHEREAS,  Attendant  to  such  concern,  and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this  Legislative  Body  is  justly  proud  to
commemorate  the  125th  Anniversary  of Congregation Tifereth Israel of
Glen Cove, New York, at a Cocktail Party and Video  Tribute  on  Sunday,
June 12, 2022; and
 
  WHEREAS,  During  this  momentous  occasion, five generations of the
Shapiro Family, specifically Libby, Leonard, Caryl, Ben, Michelle,  Eve,
and  the  late  Joseph  Shapiro, will be honored for their many years of
service to their Congregation and its members, inspiring others to  lead
a life of kindness and compassion; and
 
  WHEREAS, Founded in 1897, Congregation Tifereth Israel (CTI) is Long
Island's     oldest     continuously     operating     synagogue;    the
Shorenstein/Shapiro/Posner family has been actively  involved  with  the
Congregation  since 1908, when Louis and Sadie Shorenstein moved to Glen
Cove and opened a bakery and became members of CTI; and
 
  WHEREAS, Through the years, the  Shapiro  family  helped  build  the
Congregation, serving as officers, advisers and benefactors; and
 
  WHEREAS,  It  is  the  sense  of  this  Legislative  Body  that when
individuals and enduring religious institutions of such noble  aims  and
accomplishments  are brought to our attention, they should be celebrated
and recognized by all the citizens of  this  great  Empire  State;  now,
therefore, be it
 
  RESOLVED,  That  this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 125th Anniversary of Congregation Tifereth  Israel,  and
to pay special tribute to the Shapiro Family on June 12, 2022; and be it
further
 
  RESOLVED,  That  copies  of  this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Congregation Tifereth Israel and the Shapiro Family.
