Assembly Resolution No. 545

        MOURNING  the  death  of  John R. LaPointe, former
        Putnam  Town  Supervisor,  devoted  family  man  and
        distinguished member of his community
 
  WHEREAS, There are certain outstanding members of our community who,
through  their selfless commitment and dedication, have served to better
the quality of life in our community and have had a measurable  positive
impact  on  the  lives  of  its residents; John R. LaPointe was one such
individual; and
 
  WHEREAS, It is with  profound  sorrow  and  deep  regret  that  this
Legislative  Body  records  the  passing of John R. LaPointe, noting the
significance of his purposeful life and accomplishments; and
 
  WHEREAS, John R. LaPointe of  Putnam  Station,  New  York,  died  on
Monday, January 17, 2022, at the age of 83; and
 
  WHEREAS, Born in Ticonderoga, New York, on November 4, 1938, John R.
LaPointe  was  the  son  of  the  late  Desmond  LaPointe  and  Margaret
(Thompson) LaPointe Berner; and
 
  WHEREAS, A lifelong resident of Ticonderoga and Putnam Station, John
R.  LaPointe attended Ticonderoga High School  before  transferring  and
graduating from Tabor Academy in Marion, Massachusetts; and
 
  WHEREAS,  John  R.  LaPointe  went  on  to  earn  a  degree in Hotel
Management from SUNY Delhi, before proudly  serving  his  country  as  a
member of the United States Army; and
 
  WHEREAS,  In  addition  to  his  illustrious  33-year  career  as  a
Metropolitan Life Representative,  John  R.  LaPointe  was  a  dedicated
public  servant  for  more  than  five decades; he held many elected and
appointed  positions  in  local   government,   including   Village   of
Ticonderoga  Treasurer,  Ticonderoga Chamber of Commerce President, Town
Justice of Dresden, and was the Town  Supervisor  of  Putnam  from  1987
until his retirement in 2019; and
 
  WHEREAS,   With   a  steadfast  and  unwavering  commitment  to  his
community, John R. LaPointe also served on the Washington  County  Board
of  Supervisors  and  as  Washington  County  Budget Officer, as well as
President of the NYS Association of Towns, President of NYMIR  and  Vice
Chairman of Washington County Board of Supervisors; and
 
  WHEREAS,  Furthermore,  he  was  on  the Board of Directors for both
NYSAC and OTB, and was an active member of the  Ticonderoga  Elks  Lodge
No. 1494 and The Shriners; and
 
  WHEREAS, Pre-deceased by his parents; one sister, Michelle LaPointe;
and  one son, John Russell LaPointe, John R. LaPointe is survived by his
wife of 38 years, Jeanette L. (Cummings)  LaPointe;  six  children,  Tom
LaPointe  (Judy),  Chris  LaPointe  (Charlotte),  Desiree  LaPointe, Kim
Coffin  (Matt),  Chantel  Thomas  (Cynthia),  and   Jason   Thomas;   11
grandchildren,  Sam  and Noah LaPointe, Desmond, Jace and Marlee Diskin,
 
Michael Gates, Jennell Coffin and Taylor Coffin,  and  Riley,  Ross  and
Raegan Thomas; and one great-granddaughter, CharlieAnn Gates; as well as
four  sisters,  Rosann  Touchette,  Bonnie  Schmidt,  Claire Holland and
Deborah Wehrman; and
 
  WHEREAS,  John  R.  LaPointe's infinite selflessness and benevolence
will shine on through his family's vivid and happy memories; his insight
and strength will forever serve as a beacon of love, light and  hope  to
the countless lives he touched; and
 
  WHEREAS,  Armed  with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of
compassion, John R. LaPointe leaves behind  a  legacy  which  will  long
endure the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory to all
who were privileged to have known and loved such an amazing man; he will
be  deeply  missed  and  truly  merits  the  grateful  tribute  of  this
Legislative Body; now, therefore, be it
 
  RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its  deliberations  to
mourn  the  death  of  John  R.  LaPointe,  and  to  express its deepest
condolences to his family; and be it further
 
  RESOLVED, That a copy of this  Resolution,  suitably  engrossed,  be
transmitted to the family of John R. LaPointe.
