The Village of Westbury is so fortunate to have a place like Westbury Arts where arts and culture are celebrated. Assemblymember Lavine joins (l-r) President and Founding Member Julie Lyon and Executive Director Jennifer Yatco for a tour of their wonderful facility. In addition to enjoying the ongoing exhibition ‘Fifty-Five Years of Black Creativity,’ Lavine was able to get a first-hand look at the newly renovated space used for a variety of shows and special event programs that he was able to secure funding for.

The Plainview-Old Bethpage School District Board of Education and Superintendent Dr. Mary O'Meara (to Lavine’s right) host a legislative breakfast. The morning included a thoughtful discussion on a number of important topics all aimed at providing the best possible future for the children of this wonderful community.

Clean energy advocates come together for a press conference in Mineola to encourage the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Biden Administration to improve clean truck standards. This will spur innovation leading to more affordable zero-pollution vehicles, lower transportation costs for truckers and businesses and result in cleaner air and a better climate.

As Chair of the Assembly Judiciary Committee, Assemblymember Lavine is privileged to oversee a joint budget hearing on public protection. Among the issues discussed was judicial security. Lavine’s bill to provide better protection for all court personnel and their families is included in the governor’s proposed budget.

As part of the week marking the anniversary of the historic Roe vs. Wade decision that legalized abortion, Assemblymember Lavine was proud to attend a rally at the State Capitol sponsored by Planned Parenthood Empire State Acts. At the event, the New York State Assembly Majority reaffirmed its commitment to making this state a national leader in protecting women’s rights and providing the necessary legal support for to ensure reproductive freedom.

Assemblymember Lavine has the honor of introducing his wife Ronnie on the Chamber floor on the 51st anniversary of the landmark Roe vs. Wade Supreme Court decision legalizing abortion. Ronnie is in Albany representing Planned Parenthood of Greater New York Action Fund as a member of its Board of Directors. Thanks to the multitude of friends and neighbors in the 13th Assembly District who graciously donated, Assemblymember Lavine’s annual toy drive was a tremendous success. Lavine was filled with joy seeing the looks on the kids’ faces at the distribution event which was coordinated by the Glen Cove Equal Opportunity Council. It all could not have been done without the assistance of Oyster Bay-East Norwich Public Library, The Bryant Library, and Glen Cove Public Library which served as collection sites.

At Glen Cove High School, Assemblymember Lavine enjoys meeting three wonderful student delegates representing the Angelo Del Toro Puerto Rican / Hispanic Youth Leadership Institute. This terrific program focuses on student empowerment and leadership development. Lavine and the students had a thoughtful discussion about the upcoming legislative session in Albany which ties in perfectly with one of the program’s goals - to develop students’ knowledge of the state legislative process.

The Tilles Center for the Performing Arts on the beautiful LIU Post campus in Brookville plays host to a seminar regarding the tremendous impact arts and culture have on the economy – particularly here on Long Island. Assemblymember Lavine catches up with good friend Josh Mirsky, Jericho resident and member of the Autism Spectrum Disorders Advisory Board. Earlier this year, Josh presented Lavine with his contest-winning design for a flag to promote neurodiversity awareness. Now, he is working on getting a bill passed in the legislature establishing it as the official state flag for raising awareness of neurodiversity.
