“The Reading Between the Lions program is a wonderful experience for everyone involved,” Assemblyman Weisenberg said. “Seniors get the opportunity to spend time with children, while these kids are learning at an early age the joy that comes from opening a book.”
Reading Between the Lions is a volunteer program comprised of senior citizens who wish to share their passion for reading with preschoolers. The seniors assist with both group and one-on-one reading sessions at Long Beach Head Start, City of Long Beach Martin Luther King Program and the Temple Emanu-El.
“Our quality of life is enhanced by the many people who volunteer in our community,” Assemblyman Weisenberg said. “Reading Between the Lions gives seniors a forum to share their unique talents, skills and passion and enables them to enrich their own lives as they enrich the lives of others.”
