On Thursday, May 31, 2012, Assemblyman Braunstein and Senator Toby Ann Stavisky were honored by the Mitchell Linden Civic Association with awards of appreciation for their work on behalf of the co-ops in Northeast Queens, pictured here with MLCA Co-Presidents Ellie Freiser and Arlene Fleishman.
Sen. Stavisky and Assemblyman Braunstein are the sponsors of a number of measures dealing with co-op and condo tax assessments. Co-ops are assessed the same as rental properties, creating unfair property tax increases. Their legislation is designed to make the assessments more equitable. In addition to legislative work on behalf of the community, Sen. Stavisky is the founder of the North Flushing Senior Center, which is in Mitchell Linden and provides services to elderly residents.
“I have many friends who live in Mitchell Linden, and I have deep roots in the community. A local school, PS 242, is named after my husband,” Sen. Stavisky noted.
Building on this theme, Assemblyman Braunstein added, “In the short time that I have represented the Mitchell Linden community, I have had the opportunity to make great friends. It has been an honor to work with the leadership of the Mitchell Linden Civic Association, including Co-Presidents, Ellie Freiser and Arlene Fleishman.”
