"This legislation makes sense. We're at a time now where many folks are under attack…this just shows how strong we are in New York and how we stand with people that help our economy, that help the society and help America," said Assemblyman Clyde Vanel, son of Haitian immigrants, at a press conference advocating for legislation which supports the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) policy currently under attack by the federal government. Assemblyman Vanel also noted the situations similarity to Haitian immigrants who feared the end of the Temporary Protected Status that was granted to them after the 2010 devastating earthquake.
