"It's in our long-term interest for our students to be educated and paying taxes. Similar dynamics exist of course, among  returning students and mothers, single-mothers who are attempting college education who are often struggling  against gender-based pay inequities while they are also raising families and trying to go to school. So, I'm interested as well about whether or not New York can implement free community college and how we would go about doing that. What factors need to be put in place so that we can achieve that and what we can do about debt-free college whether it's through loan forgiveness programs," Assemblymember Simon asked SUNY Chancellor Nancy Zimpher during a Public Hearing about the Rising Costs of Higher Education and Student Load Debt in New York State.
