Millman Reads to 2nd Graders at P.S. 133 Read-A-Thon
April 10, 2006

Brooklyn, NY – As part of National Library Week, Assemblywoman Joan L. Millman participated in the Sixth Annual Read-A-Thon at P.S. 133, The William A. Butler Elementary School on April 6, 2006. Millman read “Caps for Sale” and recited another story from memory to a captivated class of second graders.
A former public school teacher and librarian, Assemblywoman Millman participated in the Read-A-Thon to show her support for the program which enthusiastically promotes reading to the elementary school students.
“This is a great event because it portrays reading in a positive light, something to enjoy and look forward to,” said Assemblywoman Millman. “One reason I like to participate in P.S. 133’s Read-A-Thon is that bringing in outside guests to read books to the students really helps them understand that reading can be fun. The second grade students I visited were enthusiastic, attentive and asked great questions about my stories. As a former educator, I always enjoy the opportunity to interact with students in the classroom.”
