Brooklyn, NY – On Thursday, June 28, Assemblywoman Joan L. Millman and State Senator Martin Connor hosted a Senior Fair at St. Francis College in Brooklyn Heights. The event brought together nearly 300 seniors from Carroll Gardens, Cobble Hill, Brooklyn Heights and downtown Brooklyn.
“I am pleased to provide so many senior citizens with access to much-needed services,” said Assemblywoman Millman. “With such a wide variety of service organizations and agencies, the Senior Fair is a one-stop shopping trip for local seniors to receive information, access medical, financial and legal services as well as socialize with other seniors.”
One of the highlights from this year’s fair was the Dodge YMCA, who led exercise classes for the seniors. Another popular service was provided by the New York State Comptroller’s Office of Unclaimed Funds. Many seniors discovered unclaimed accounts thanks to the Comptroller’s Office. Other crowd favorites were the Fire Safety Education Unit, who gave out hundreds of free smoke detectors, and Long Island College Hospital, which provided free blood pressure screenings to the attendees.
“I don’t think anyone who attended the Senior Fair left without learning something about the services that are available to them. I want to thank all the organizations and city and state agencies that participated in this great event and for providing my constituents with information on such a wide array of services,” said Senator Martin Connor.
