Millman Reads to Children at Brooklyn Public Library
March 11, 2008

Brooklyn – On Friday, March 7th, Assemblywoman Joan Millman joined children and their families at the Carroll Gardens Branch of the Brooklyn Public Library to commemorate the centennial of the birth of Brooklyn author William Steig. Millman read from Steig’s Pete’s a Pizza to a roomful of listeners.
The event took place during a regular Friday arts and crafts program held at the library. In addition, all children attending the event left with a free book, courtesy of the Reading is Fundamental Program. A celebrated cartoonist and children’s author, Steig created numerous imaginative children’s stories and cartoons. Steig would have been 100 years old in November 2007.
“It was such a joy to share this book with local children and their families,” said Millman. “As a former librarian, I encourage all parents to read aloud to their children. Although it was a cold and rainy day outside, we had a lot of fun reading and discussing Steig’s story.”
