Millman Celebrates Senior Artists

July 7, 2008
Brooklyn – On Thursday, July 3rd, Assemblywoman Joan Millman joined State Senator Martin Connor, a representative of Borough President Marty Markowitz, staff from Elders Share the Arts Program (ESTA) and community members to honor a group of extraordinary local artists from the Eileen Dugan Senior Center. Their artwork was displayed in the lobby of Citibank, located at 375 Court Street. To recognize their achievement at this ”Legacy Works” culminating exhibition, Assemblywoman Millman presented each artist with a New York State Assembly Certificate of Merit.

“Legacy Works” is the visual component of ESTA’s Living History Arts program funded through the New York City Department for the Aging. The program encouraged seniors at the Eileen Dugan Senior Center to express themselves artistically using music, dance, mediation and other reflective activities as inspiration. In addition to art programs in senior centers, ESTA works in libraries, schools and long-term care facilities.

“It was evident by the smiles on the artists’ faces how proud and happy they were to share their artwork with the many people who visit the Court Street branch of Citibank in Carroll Gardens,” said Millman. “This program has been an enriching experience and I thank all those involved for making it possible.”
