Millman Helps Fund Program for Young Readers
August 26, 2009

Brooklyn – Assemblywoman Joan Millman attended the final day of a Summer Intensive Tutoring Program coordinated by the New York Chapter of the International Dyslexia Association for at-risk children behind their grade level in reading skills. Millman joined parents, tutors and students to celebrate the success of the program at the Mary McDowell Learning Center in Cobble Hill, Brooklyn. Thanks to state funding secured by Assemblywoman Millman, children had the opportunity to increase their reading levels before the beginning of another school year.
“Each summer, I encourage children to read,” said Assemblywoman Millman. “The children that participated in this Summer Intensive Tutoring Program will begin the school year with a major improvement in skills and a boost in self confidence. Thanks to the International Dyslexia Association, tutors taught students techniques that can raise reading levels by multiple grades.”
