Millman Helps Provide Free Osteoporosis Test for Local Residents
May 11, 2010
Brooklyn On Friday, May 7th, Assemblywoman Joan L. Millman welcomed 40 local residents to her District Office for a free osteoporosis test, thanks to Long Island College Hospital. The test measures bone density in the bones of the foot and indicates whether an individual is at risk for osteoporosis. Generally, Medicare covers only one bone density test every two years, so this event allowed those at risk or with a family history of osteoporosis to monitor their health. The results of this test are invaluable to those at risk of osteoporosis, Millman said. I thank Long Island College Hospital and the Karpas Health Information Center for making this day of free testing possible. Today we provided results to individuals who may have otherwise been unaware of their bone health. With this information, individuals can practice preventative methods, rather than learn of poor bone health after a bad fall.
