Brooklyn – Three election law bills sponsored by Assemblywoman Joan L. Millman have been signed into law by the Governor. As Chair of the Assembly’s Election Law Committee, Millman introduced Assembly Bills 11352, 11353, and 11354 to clarify election-day procedures for new electronic voting machines. In accordance with the federal Help America Vote Act (HAVA), electronic voting machines will be used for the first time in the City this September.
“It is of utmost importance to me that the implementation of electronic voting machines this fall in New York City and throughout the state is smooth and well planned,” stated Millman. “I thank my colleagues in the legislature and the Governor for recognizing this need and ensuring this bill became law.”
Millman continued, “In the upcoming months, I will be working with the New York City Board of Elections to conduct outreach events in the 52nd Assembly District. I arranged a demonstration that took place today at a local senior center. After having the opportunity to use the machine, voters were reassured that using the new machines will be no more difficult than using the old lever voting machines.”
