Millman Attends Graduation for the RAICES Healthy & Secure Computer Training Program

December 9, 2010
Brooklyn – On December 9th Assemblywoman Millman attended the RAICES Healthy & Secure Computer Training Program graduation. The eight week program is administered by the RAICES Times Plaza Senior Center at 460 Atlantic Avenue thanks to the tireless efforts of Antonio Barrios, Jose Ortiz Ortiz, Rosemary Bland and Suyapa Blanco. The ten successful graduates learned how to use Microsoft Word and the internet so they could send emails to family members around the world. RAICES serves 500 seniors and as of today about 20% of those seniors have successfully passed the computer training program.

Assemblywoman Millman stressed the importance of learning computer skills at any age. “It is crucial to address and reduce the increasing digital divide among senior citizens. I believe that it is never too late to learn something new. The skills that these graduates receive are invaluable and can be used in their everyday lives. Additionally, these seniors now gain access to the computer lab at RAICES. I know RAICES will continue to increase computer proficiency among seniors by offering this course to as many individuals as possible.”

Assemblywoman Millman, Senator Montgomery’s Office and the RAICES Times Plaza Senior Center distributed certificates to each of the graduates. They also received flash drives so they can save their individual work.
