Millman Announces the Saving of Long Island College Hospital
February 14, 2011
Brooklyn – Late Friday, elected officials on the local, state, and federal levels met with the State Department of Health and representatives from Governor Andrew Cuomo’s administration regarding the future of Long Island College Hospital (LICH).
“I am thrilled to announce that late Friday Governor Andrew Cuomo made a commitment to honor $62 million dollars in HEAL grants which will keep LICH open and allow it to merge with SUNY Downstate. The grants were first allocated by former Governor David Paterson. This would not have been possible without the help of the community, local, state and federal elected officials, and the staff at LICH. We all knew that the community could not stand to lose this institution, and as a result we worked together to reach a solution. Long Island College Hospital has served the residents of the 52nd Assembly District incredibly well for over 150 years and thanks to today’s announcement, will continue to serve us for at least another 150 years.”
