The P.S. 8 Restructuring Committee will work with the new Regional Superintendent of Division 8, Carmen Farina, in the near future. Carmen Farina, superintendent of District 15, is looking forward to making P.S. 8 a top-notch elementary school in Brooklyn Heights.
Lew Smith, Dean of Education at Fordham University and facilitator for the restructuring process, introduced Ms. Farina to the committee, comprised of parents of students and prospective students at P.S. 8, teachers, community leaders and elected officials. Ms. Farina has served as a teacher, staff developer, and principal and returned to District 15 to serve as superintendent, where she earned a city-wide reputation for her leadership abilities. Chancellor Klein selected Carmen Farina to be a regional superintendent for her proven record of successes.
Assemblywoman Joan Millman, who has been involved in the restructuring process since its inception, says “Having worked with Carmen Farina for years, I have all the confidence in the world that she will do right by the parents and children of our community. We all have a strong vision for P.S. 8’s future and working together we can establish a model elementary school that parents will be eager to send their children to.”
“I am extremely pleased with the selection of Carmen Farina as regional superintendent,” Council Member David Yassky said. “Carmen dove right in and is giving P.S. 8 the attention it deserves. I am confident in her ability to make much-needed changes. I look forward to working with her to make those changes.”
All further efforts regarding the restructuring of P.S. 8 will come directly from the District 15 Office.
