Assemblyman Charles Barron spoke in opposition of legislation that would extend the current provisions of Chapter 345 of the Laws of 2009 related to the operation and management of the New York City school district. "We are going to once again vote to give a mayor total control over a school system, 1.1 million children, 85% of them black and Latino, a $24 billion dollar school budget, we are going to say to this state, to the parents of our state who have zero power, not like in other areas where everybody has school boards where there may be some school board elections. Our parents have zero power in deciding policy over their children in New York City." said Assemblyman Barron.
