"A broad spectrum of professional associations and organizations have deemed this to be undermining of the self-confidence and the emotional stability of young people who are struggling with coming to terms with their sexual orientation.  In many instances, it's not the youngsters, but rather their parents that are having trouble, and so their parents are perfectly free to go and seek counseling in order to deal with what they view as a problem.
