Assembly Member O'Donnell questions the Honorable Lawrence K. Marks, Chief Administrative Judge, New York State Office of Court Administration about their proposed reform to bail at today's Joint Budget Hearing on Public Protection stating, "We don't need to change the bail statute to give more people reasons to keep more people in jail. We need to change the bail statute so that we're not having people sit in places like Rikers Island for years, years, before they can assert their constitutional right to the presumption of innocence. The Judiciary needs to take a better role and look at this and not advocate for changing it to make the bail statute even harder on people who don't have resources."
