"There's an inequity in the law of New York where a person can purchase a gravity knife in a hardware store and then walk out of that store and be stopped, frisked, arrested and convicted without even being able to assert affirmative defense that they purchased the knife lawfully," said Assemblymember Dan Quart, discussing his legislation to redefine what constitutes a gravity knife so that lawful purchases will no longer lead to unjust arrests.
