Kavanagh Backs Environment-Friendly Community Initiatives
April 25, 2009
Assemblymember Brian Kavanagh is pleased to co-sponsor major environmental initiatives as part of the Go Green Lower East Side (GGLES) effort. On Saturday, April 25, 2009, Kavanagh joined Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer, community members, and environmental organizations at the Allen Street Mall to celebrate Earth Week. The event sponsors provided free compact fluorescent light bulbs, bike repairs and helmet safety checks, green maps, potting of seedlings for kids and adults, energy efficiency assessments and evaluations for small businesses, and green jobs summer training sign up for students. Assemblymember Kavanagh is also co-sponsoring the workshop “Green from the Ground Up” in the Lower East Side to be held on May 11th. The workshop is sponsored by Solar One in partnership with the Council on the Environment’s Office of Recycling Outreach and Education and the Environmental Protection Agency. All building and property owners, as well as superintendents are encouraged to attend. “Green from the Ground Up” consists of three parts: a survey of green roof applications for NYC, recycling information in the city, and energy efficient alternatives. The event has been coordinated by the Green Buildings sub-committee of GGLES.
