Kavanagh Celebrates New York City’s Largest Green Space
On September 20, 2009, Assemblymember Brian Kavanagh joined his Assembly colleague Michael Cusick, Staten Island Borough President James Molinaro, City Parks Commissioner Adrian Benepe, and numerous others in honoring the success of one of New York’s great natural treasures, the Staten Island Greenbelt, at an event hosted by the Greenbelt Conservancy, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary.
The Greenbelt is one of the largest all-urban parks in the United States, featuring diverse terrain such as woodlands, wetlands, meadows, hiking trails, baseball fields, and a wildlife refuge. Events in the Greenbelt include concerts, summer camps, and educational programs. The Greenbelt Conservancy works in partnership with the Department of Parks and Recreation to promote conservation, educate the public, and oversee the administration and use of the Greenbelt’s 2,800 acres.
