Assemblyman Dinowitz is Outraged over Filth on the 1/9 Subway
April 22, 2005
Assemblyman Jeffrey Dinowitz has written a letter expressing his outrage over conditions on the 1/9 subway and requesting the MTA provide better cleaning services for the line. The newest Straphangers Campaign’s survey revealed yesterday that the 1/9 subway line is the city’s dirtiest subway.
"The people of the Northwest Bronx deserve a clean and sanitary subway. It is an outrage that the 1/9 subway line has the lowest percent of clean cars at 14%, down from 55%. I believe the direct cause of the decrease in cleanliness is the MTA’s budget cuts in car cleaning staff over the last few years," said Assemblyman Dinowitz.
Assemblyman Dinowitz strongly support the Straphangers’ proposals for fixing the 1/9 subway line. The MTA needs to set higher goals for cleanliness, as well as producing more timely information on cleanliness. "The MTA needs to get on the right track when it comes to cleaning the subways," said Assemblyman Dinowitz.
