During a public hearing in Albany, Assemblymember Brindisi questioned NYS Education Commissioner MaryEllen Elia about possible federal funding for the school districts that provide educational resources for incoming immigrant populations saying, "Not much money, if any, comes from the feds to help the state or the school district provide for that education.  I know there have been examples in the past or military base closings where the federal government has provide impact aid when there has a been a loss of a military base, is there any conversations taking place with the federal government about providing some aid, and I know it is very difficult because there's lots of transition going on right now, about providing aid for schools that have large immigrant and refugee populations?"
