Assemblyman Stirpe: Visit the Great New York State Fair on a Budget During Special Fair Days

Here in Central New York, we have the benefit of being right next door to The Great New York State Fair, which brings a wide variety of attractions and events for the entire family and showcases the best products our state has to offer. This year, consider taking advantage of Special Fair Days that can enhance your experience at the fair and even save you money. There’s not only cotton candy and prizes for kids to enjoy at the fair – there’s something for everyone. On Wednesday, Aug. 27, you’ll find entertainment celebrating the women in your family as the fair hosts its 2014 Women’s Day. There will be art and culinary competitions, a gathering of women’s advocacy groups, and many other special events. The men and women who are currently serving or who have served our country can also take part in the fun, at a reduced price. On its Veteran’s Day, Thursday, Aug. 28, the fair will recognize our heroes in uniform by offering free admission to all active-duty military personnel and, of course, veterans. Those eligible for the discount should be sure to bring proper identification to show at the ticket booth, such as a military ID, discharge papers, a Veteran’s Administration ID or a New York State driver’s license with the “Veteran” designation printed on it.1 Finally, as the fair winds down, it’s important to make sure that everyone gets the chance to experience all there is to see before the season ends. On Sept. 1, there will be a Summer Send Off “Dollar Day,” with adult admission and all midway rides discounted to $1. It’s the perfect opportunity to gather with friends and family for last-minute fun as we celebrate Labor Day and the end of warmer weather. Whether it’s your first time at the fair or your hundredth, you’ll be sure to find something new to see this year. The Great New York State Fair is open through Sept. 1, and I encourage all of you to enjoy the Special Fair Days that are offered so you can get the most out of your fair experience. For more information on the fair’s special events, visit The Great New York State Fair’s website (nysfair.org/your-fair-visit/special-fair-days). And, as always, if you have any questions or concerns about this or any other community issue, please don’t hesitate to contact my office at 452-1115 or StirpeA@assembly.state.ny.us.
