Assemblyman Al Stirpe to Host a Free Electronics Recycling Event

Assemblyman Al Stirpe (D-Cicero) announced he will host an electronics recycling event on Saturday, Jan. 9, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the North Syracuse Central School District Bus Complex located at 5520 E. Taft Road. Home electronics will be accepted and recycled free of charge.

“As technology advances and many electronics become obsolete, it’s important to remember that these items need to be thrown away responsibly to keep dangerous chemicals out of our landfills,” said Assemblyman Stirpe. “Recycling electronics not only protects our health and environment, but can also help conserve natural resources by allowing valuable materials to be reclaimed and reused.”

Items that can be recycled at the event include, but are not limited to:

  • cell phones;
  • computers and laptops;
  • printers and scanners;
  • game consoles; and
  • televisions, VCRs and DVD players.

Time Warner Cable and Sunnking Electronics Recycling are working in conjunction with Assemblyman Stirpe to ensure all items dropped off at the event are recycled properly.

“Time Warner Cable is proud to be a partner of such an important ‘green’ event in the Syracuse community,” said Steve Makowski, area vice president of operations, Time Warner Cable. “As a company we are committed to raising environmental awareness - technology has taken on such an important role in our lives and now more than ever, we need to be mindful of the environment as we dispose of these items,” he added.

“This year’s e-recycling event will arrive just in time to prevent televisions, computers and other gadgets replaced during the holiday season from ending up in a landfill, where they could cause serious damage,” said Cindy Jessop, Director of Community Outreach & Programs, Sunnking. “We’re happy to partner with Assemblyman Stirpe once again to ensure families have a safe, convenient place to recycle their outdated electronics.”

A portion of the proceeds from the event will benefit the Northstars JV Winterguard Boosters Club. Assembly Stirpe added, “This e-recycling event will provide an opportunity for families to dispose of their old electronics safely while also benefiting the Northstars JV Winterguard Boosters Club.”
