Assemblyman Stirpe: E-Recycling Event a Success

Thousands of local residents participated in an electronics recycling event sponsored by Assemblyman Al Stirpe (D-Cicero) this weekend. Televisions, cell phones, computers, laptops, printers, scanners and fax machines were among some of the items that were dropped off.

“We saw an incredible turnout at our electronics recycling event this weekend,” Assemblyman Stirpe said. “Thanks to the work of our volunteers and community partners, we have helped significantly in reducing the amount of hazardous waste polluting our landfills.”

Many household electronics contain chemicals that have a damaging impact on our air, water and soil when they are tossed into the trash. Events like these allow the safe and responsible disposal of electronics and minimize the impact of these pollutants on the environment, Stirpe noted.

The e-recycling event, co-sponsored by Sunnking Electronics and Time Warner Cable, was held Saturday at the North Syracuse Central School District Bus Complex on East Taft Road. A portion of the proceeds from the items recycled will benefit the Northstars JV Winterguard Boosters Club.
