New York State Assemblyman Tom Abinanti (92nd AD) is proposing that Westchester residents be given EZ Pass discounts for any new toll increases needed to pay for the new Tappan Zee Bridge. Abinanti’s district includes Tarrytown, where the bridge enters Westchester.
Assemblyman Abinanti has made his proposal in letters to the Department of Transportation Commissioner, Joan J. McDonald and the N.Y.S. Thruway Chair, Mr. Howard P. Millstein.
“In fashioning a financial plan to pay for the new bridge, planners should take into consideration an accommodation for Westchester residents,” said Abinanti.
While no specifics have been publicly released about the sources of revenue, there have been discussions about significant toll increases as part of the funding plan. “Westchester residents shouldn’t have to pay more to cross a new bridge which is constructed to meet regional and interstate needs,” said the Westchester Assemblyman.
