Assemblyman McDonough Wants To Ensure All Homeowners Get Their Property Tax Rebate Check

Assemblyman David G. McDonough (R,C,I-Merrick) announced that the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance has started mailing homeowners information and applications regarding the Middle Class STAR Rebate Program. The new program will provide direct property tax relief to homeowners by sending them a State rebate check for a portion of their school taxes.

The rebate will be provided to all homeowners who are currently enrolled in the STAR and Enhanced STAR programs, and have a household income of less than $250,000. The state will notify homeowners enrolled in the Basic STAR program regarding the application process. If you are currently enrolled in the Enhanced STAR program, your rebate check will be automatically mailed to you.

After the Department of Taxation and Finance notifies you how to obtain an application, qualified homeowners have until November 30, 2007 to apply for their rebate.

Homeowners will need to submit the affiliated income for each parcel on their application to the Department of Taxation and Finance. The affiliated income includes the combined income of all owners of the property and their spouses. The documentation requirements needed to verify your income will be listed on the application.

Once your application has been submitted, the Department will send out rebate checks on a rolling basis based on the dates applications are received. Individual rebates will vary depending upon your exemption, income and the school district in which you reside.
