March 25, 2014 Recognized as National Agriculture Day

Assemblymember Didi Barrett (D-Hudson) announced that a resolution she authored to name Tuesday, March 25, 2014, as National Agriculture Day has passed the Assembly (K.939).

“As a member of the Agriculture Committee, I understand the significant impact farming has to our local communities and state,” said Assemblymember Barrett. “Our farmers not only feed us, they drive the economy as well, by creating jobs on and off the farm.”

The New York State Assembly recognized March 25, 2014, as National Agriculture Day to honor the important contributions agriculture has to the health, economy, environment, beauty and future of not only Columbia and Dutchess counties but New York State as well.

Agriculture accounts for approximately $5 billion a year in economic activity in New York and creates 196,000 jobs. Farmers also enhance the local economy because they spend locally, attract tourism and keep money in the community, noted Barrett.
