"Could you explore how the process of amnesty reparations would work, most optimally in this state for people who have been languishing in jails forever. People who are newly arrested. Just the whole gamut of people whose lives have been destroyed in many cases, but really wreaked havoc with in others. What would be your path to justice for them?" Assemblymember Linda Rosenthal asked Alyssa Aguilera, Co-Executive Director of VOCAL-BY, while participating in an Assembly Joint Committee Hearing among the Assembly Committees on Codes, Health and the Alcoholism and Drug Abuse about marijuana decriminalization and regulation. The purpose of the hearing was to examine the potential impacts of the legalization and regulation of marijuana and its effects on New York's criminal justice and public health care systems.
