Palmesano, Nojay, Giglio Welcome Local Town Highway Superintendents From Steuben County

Assemblymen Phil Palmesano (R,C,I-Corning) Bill Nojay (R,C) and Joe Giglio (R,C,I-Gowanda) were pleased to welcome town highway superintendents from Steuben County to the state Capitol last week.

Hundreds of town and county highway workers from across the state came to Albany to urge the governor and legislative leaders to increase investment for local roads, bridges and culverts through the highly successful Consolidated Local Street and Highway Improvement Program (CHIPS).

“Investment in our local infrastructure should be a priority. The fact of the matter is that 87% of our roads and 52% of our bridges are owned and maintained by our local municipalities. The investment through the CHIPS program provides important funding that benefits every community and every taxpayer across our state. However, it is particularly important to our upstate, rural communities. In many cases, CHIPS is the only source of funding they have to address their local infrastructure needs,” said the legislators in a joint statement.
