Welcome Letter

Dear Neighbor,

Welcome to my Web site. This is the place where I will post information which may be of interest to you. The site will be periodically updated to include information about the community, the latest events at the State Capitol and other information pertaining to state government.

I represent the 129th Assembly District, which includes the Northside, Westside, Eastwood, Strathmore, and Valley areas of the City of Syracuse, as well as the towns of Geddes and Van Buren. Since joining the Assembly in 1998, I have focused my efforts on bringing more jobs to Central New York, lowering taxes, providing our children a better education, improving our healthcare and keeping our families safe.

In addition to my normal legislative duties, I serve as Chair of the Assembly’s Standing Committee on Transportation. I also am assigned to the standing committees regarding Economic Development, Education, and Oversight, Analysis and Investigation. Through these appointments, I help direct the state’s commitment to these areas and help oversee that the Central New York area is represented fairly in budgetary matters.

I was honored to have previously served as Chair of the Assembly’s Veterans Affairs Committee. This committee held special importance to me and I am proud to say that through my efforts, the Veterans Parade, which was dormant for over 10 years, was re-started in 2008 and continues to grow. Thousands turn out to watch the CNY Veterans Parade which was expanded to include both a Parade and Expo at the New York State Fairgrounds. The event included band exhibitions and various veterans’ kiosks representing every branch of the Armed Services, and local organizations of military or veteran interest.

I grew up in Syracuse, attended Our Lady of Pompei School and St. John the Baptist Academy before going on to Syracuse University to major in history. I graduated with honors from Syracuse University Law School in 1973. Upon graduating, I entered the Army Reserves, serving for six years and rising to the rank of Captain. I have been involved in the community serving in a variety of capacities including president of Our Lady of Pompei Church Parish Council, majority leader of the Syracuse Common Council, and board member of the Arthritis Foundation.

The telephone numbers and addresses of my offices, as well as my personal e-mail address, are on this site. Please feel free to contact me or my staff with your thoughts and concerns.

Sincerely,

William B. Magnarelli

Member, NYS Assembly
