Yesterday, Assembly Minority Leader Will Barclay participated in a rally at the Auburn Correctional Facility, which was hosted by Rep. Claudia Tenney. The rally was aimed at bringing attention to the increasing dangers facing correctional officers across the state.

“As violent crime continues to run rampant in every corner of New York, Albany liberals repeatedly turn a blind eye to the overwhelming evidence their public safety agenda has failed miserably,” said Leader Barclay. “Career criminals enjoy unprecedented protections thanks to the near-elimination of bail, Raise the Age, HALT, ‘Less is More’ and a slew of other policy items passed under One-Party Rule. While our Conference has shown unwavering support for the law enforcement community, the Majority Conferences and governor’s office are content to let New York spiral in the name of a misguided criminal justice experiment masquerading as reform. Public safety is not a game, and New Yorkers will not be safe until drastic, wholesale changes are made.”

Leader Barclay and Rep. Tenney were joined by elected officials, law enforcement and hundreds of supporters who gathered to join in the call for legislative leaders to repeal the HALT Act, which has made the already-challenging job of correctional officers even more unsafe.
