Energy Committee Chairman Cusick Says Clean Hydrogen Should Be Top Priority
Staten Island – As the 2021 Legislative Session begins, Assemblyman Michael Cusick (D-Staten Island) Chairman of the Assembly Energy Committee has announced his top priorities for the energy committee this session. Among his top energy priorities is green Hydrogen and his bill A10008 which would establish a renewable Hydrogen incentive and financing program. The bill, which would establish a hydrogen incentive and financing program, will further the state’s clean energy goals.
"New York continues to lead the nation in the development of a 100 percent renewable energy economy and my bill will provide the foundation for green hydrogen technology to be developed and implemented in New York," said Chairman Cusick.
The Chairman introduced this bill during the last legislative session and plans to work toward getting it passed and signed into law this session.
The renewable Hydrogen incentive and financing program established by A10008 would create a credit for hydrogen produced in New York State to promote the production and consumption of hydrogen as the state works towards the clean energy goals set forth by the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act (CLCPA). Said Chairman Cusick of his bill, “Hydrogen is one of the best clean energy alternatives our state could embrace. It is a practical alternative which can be reasonably integrated into our energy grid. Passing legislation which promotes the use of clean hydrogen across our state will be a top priority of mine in the upcoming legislative session and I will do my best to ensure it is a priority of the state of New York as well.”
The bill is sponsored in the Senate (S08992) by Senator Kevin Parker (D-Brooklyn) Chairman of the Senate Committee on Energy and Telecommunications.
