AN ACT to amend the education law, in relation to requiring school meal
nutritional facts and ingredient lists be provided
The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-bly, do enact as follows:
1 Section 1. The education law is amended by adding a new section 918-a
2 to read as follows:
3 § 918-a. School meal nutritional facts and ingredient list. When a
4 district or the district's nutrition advisory committee, if applicable,
5 determines a prospective meal schedule for students in grades kindergar-
6 ten through twelve, the district shall include on such prospective meal
7 schedule or on the district website the nutritional facts for such meals
8 and an itemized list of the ingredients used in each meal. The informa-
9 tion required pursuant to this section shall be distributed or made
10 available prior to the meal being served. If a district shall make any
11 changes to the meal schedule for the students, then the district must
12 notify the parents and guardians of the change, the new nutritional
13 facts, and the itemized list of ingredients prior to the meal being
14 served. The notification of change may be made electronically, on the
15 district website or in any other manner as determined by the school
16 district.
17 § 2. This act shall take effect on the sixtieth day after it shall
18 have become a law.
