AN ACT to amend the public buildings law, in relation to requiring
information on resources for domestic violence and human trafficking
victims to be posted in public restrooms
The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-bly, do enact as follows:
1 Section 1. The public buildings law is amended by adding a new section
2 146 to read as follows:
3 § 146. Display of resources for domestic violence and human traffick-
4 ing victims. 1. As used in this section:
5 (a) "covered public building" shall have the same meaning as provided
6 in section one hundred forty-four of this article;
7 (b) "office" shall mean the office for the prevention of domestic
8 violence; and
9 (c) "task force" shall mean the New York state interagency task force
10 on human trafficking.
11 2. The office, in collaboration with the task force, shall create and
12 publish a poster containing information which shall include, but not be
13 limited to, contact information for the New York state police, the divi-
14 sion of criminal justice services, and the national human trafficking
15 hotline, the domestic violence hotline telephone number maintained by
16 the office, and any other information the office and task force shall
17 deem appropriate to assist victims of domestic violence and human traf-
18 ficking. Such information shall be printed in English and in any other
19 languages deemed appropriate by the office and task force.
20 3. A covered public building shall display the poster created pursuant
21 to subdivision two of this section in plain view and in a conspicuous
22 place and manner in all public restrooms, and in any other areas
23 directed by the office and task force.
24 § 2. This act shall take effect on the ninetieth day after it shall
25 have become a law.
