        Introduced  by  M.  of  A.  MAYERSOHN  --  read once and referred to the
          Committee on Education
 
        AN ACT to amend the education law, in relation to availability of  adult
          education programs for the elderly
 
          The  People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:
 

     1    Section 1. Subdivision 1 of section  4604  of  the  education  law  is
     2  amended by adding a new paragraph d to read as follows:
     3    d.  Senior citizen extension schools providing instruction in subjects
     4  specified in paragraphs a, b and c of this subdivision as well as  other
     5  courses  and  activities  of  special  interest  relating to the health,
     6  welfare, and recreational needs of persons  over  sixty  years  of  age.
     7  Such  senior citizen extension schools may be established and maintained
     8  either at existing day and evening schools for adults,  at  centers  for
     9  senior citizens, at housing projects or developments wherever a substan-
    10  tial  number  of dwelling units are occupied by persons over sixty years
    11  of age or at such other suitable place or places as may be designated by

    12  the board of education of such school district.
    13    § 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
