Authorizes the department of transportation, in consultation with the division of state police, to conduct a study of the synchronization of traffic lights and to study traffic light usage and the flow of traffic on state highways and roadways.

AN ACT to authorize the study of synchronization of traffic control
signals on highways
The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-bly, do enact as follows:
1 Section 1. The department of transportation, in consultation with the
2 division of state police, is hereby authorized and directed to conduct a
3 study of the synchronization of traffic control signals on highways
4 under the jurisdiction of the state in regions ten and eleven of such
5 department. Such study shall examine the effect of the usage and timing
6 of traffic control signals installed on state highways, on traffic flow
7 and volume on such state highways and intersecting highways, including
8 during peak and non-peak hours. Such study also shall include recommen-
9 dations on traffic light synchronization to maximize the efficient flow
10 of traffic on such state and intersecting highways. The department of
11 transportation shall deliver such study to the governor, the temporary
12 president of the senate, the speaker of the assembly, and the chairs of
13 the senate and assembly transportation committees on or before December
14 1, 2015.
15 § 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
