        Introduced  by M. of A. DESTITO -- read once and referred to the Commit-
          tee on Governmental Operations
 
        AN ACT to  amend  the  public  officers  law,  in  relation  to  records
          requested through electronic mail
 
          The  People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:
 

     1    Section 1. Subdivision 1 of section 95 of the public officers  law  is
     2  amended by adding a new paragraph (d) to read as follows:
     3    (d)  Each  agency  shall,  provided  such  agency has reasonable means
     4  available, accept requests for records submitted through electronic mail
     5  and shall respond to such requests by electronic mail, using  forms,  to
     6  the  extent  practicable, consistent with the form or forms developed by
     7  the committee on open government,  provided  that  the  electronic  mail
     8  requests do not seek a response in some other form.
     9    § 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
