        AN ACT to amend the New York state defense emergency act, in relation to
          driver's license renewals for spouses and children of persons in mili-
          tary service
 

          The  People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:
 
     1    Section 1. Subdivision 3 of section 116 of chapter 784 of the laws  of
     2  1951,  constituting the New York state defense emergency act, as amended
     3  by chapter 780 of the laws of 1972, is amended to read as follows:
     4    3. Notwithstanding any other provision of law,  a  license  to  drive,
     5  issued pursuant to the provisions of article nineteen of the vehicle and
     6  traffic  law,  which would expire prior to either of the dates set forth
     7  in this subdivision, of any person, or  any  spouse  or  child  of  such
     8  person, who was in military service on or after June twenty-fifth, nine-
     9  teen  hundred  fifty,  or  who  thereafter  shall  have entered military
    10  service, shall expire six months from [either  the  expiration  date  of

    11  this  act or] the [holder's] enlisted person's separation from service[,
    12  whichever occurs first]. Notwithstanding the provisions of this subdivi-
    13  sion, the commissioner of motor vehicles may refuse to renew the expired
    14  driver's license of any person who has failed to notify the commissioner
    15  of [his] such entry into military service.
    16    § 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
