AN ACT to amend the administrative code of the city of New York, in
relation to participation in a training refresher course in tactical
communications and cultural and community awareness by officers of the
police force
The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-bly, do enact as follows:
1 Section 1. The administrative code of the city of New York is amended
2 by adding a new section 14-109.1 to read as follows:
3 § 14-109.1 Tactical communications and cultural and community aware-
4 ness training refresher course. The commissioner shall promulgate rules
5 and regulations within six months after the effective date of this
6 section that require all officers subject to this title to successfully
7 complete a training refresher course in tactical communications, also
8 known as "verbal judo", and cultural and community awareness, on a bien-
9 nial basis. High-ranking officers such as captains, deputies, lieuten-
10 ants, sergeants and inspectors may be excluded from such training
11 requirement as determined within each precinct.
12 § 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
