        AN  ACT  to  amend  the  education  law, in relation to renaming certain
          schools established by a board of cooperative educational services  as

          Quest schools; and making an appropriation therefor
 
          The  People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:
 
     1    Section 1. Section 1950 of the education law is amended  by  adding  a
     2  new subdivision 1-a to read as follows:
     3    1-a.  On  and  after the effective date of this subdivision all educa-
     4  tional programs provided or operated by a board  of  cooperative  educa-
     5  tional services shall be known as "Quest schools". Upon application by a
     6  board  of  cooperative educational services, there shall be paid to each
     7  qualifying board of cooperative educational services an amount up to ten
     8  thousand dollars for the purposes of marketing of such schools as  Quest

     9  schools  and for the replacement of signs and other printed materials. A
    10  board of cooperative educational services shall be  required  to  expend
    11  one  thousand  dollars from existing funds towards such marketing and/or
    12  sign replacement to be eligible for  a  grant  under  this  subdivision.
    13  Signs  and materials developed pursuant to the provisions of this subdi-
    14  vision shall bear the  phrase  "Quest  Schools:    Foundation  for  Your
    15  Future".
    16    §  2.  The sum of three hundred eighty thousand dollars ($380,000), or
    17  so much thereof as may be  necessary,  is  hereby  appropriated  to  the
    18  department  of  education out of any moneys in the state treasury in the
    19  general fund to the credit of the local assistance account,  not  other-

    20  wise  appropriated,  and  made immediately available, for the purpose of
    21  carrying out the provisions of this act. Such moneys shall be payable on
    22  the audit and warrant  of  the  comptroller  on  vouchers  certified  or

     1  approved  by  the  commissioner of education in the manner prescribed by
     2  law.
     3    §  3.  By  January  first  of each year, the commissioner of education
     4  shall issue a report to the governor and the legislature concerning  the
     5  effectiveness  of  marketing  education  programs  provided by boards of

     6  cooperative educational services pursuant to the provision  of  subdivi-
     7  sion 1-a of section 1950 of the education law as added by section one of
     8  this act.
     9    §  4.  This act shall take effect on the first of July next succeeding
    10  the date on which it shall have become a law.
