AN ACT to amend the public authorities law, in relation to the half fare
rate program within the metropolitan transportation authority
The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-bly, do enact as follows:
1 Section 1. Subdivision 16 of section 1266 of the public authorities
2 law, as amended by chapter 25 of the laws of 2000, is amended to read as
3 follows:
4 16. Notwithstanding any other provision of law, the authority and any
5 of its subsidiary corporations shall establish and implement a half fare
6 rate program for persons [with serious mental illness] who are eligible
7 to receive social security disability insurance or supplemental security
8 income benefits [as defined pursuant to title sixteen of] under the
9 federal social security act and section two hundred nine or three
10 hundred sixty-six of the social services law. An award letter from the
11 social security administration may be submitted as proof of disability.
12 § 2. Subdivision 8 of section 1205 of the public authorities law, as
13 amended by chapter 25 of the laws of 2000, is amended to read as
14 follows:
15 8. Notwithstanding any other provision of law, the authority and any
16 of its subsidiary corporations shall establish and implement a half fare
17 rate program for persons [with serious mental illness] who are eligible
18 to receive social security disability insurance or supplemental security
19 income benefits [as defined pursuant to title sixteen of] under the
20 federal social security act and section two hundred nine or three
21 hundred sixty-six of the social services law. An award letter from the
22 social security administration may be submitted as proof of disability.
23 The half fare rate program established and implemented pursuant to this
24 subdivision shall be in operation during all hours in which such author-
25 ity provides railroad, subway and/or omnibus services, and such program
26 shall not be limited in operation to off-peak hours or to any other
27 hours designated by the authority or its subsidiary corporations.
28 § 3. This act shall take effect immediately.
